'Sorry, I was drunk'
'Sorry, I was drunk'
Often this statement is used after a hectic night out of partying and drinking and then the next morning after ones sober realizations, one tries to make up for their drunk inhibitions. But is this really acceptable? As someone who doesn't often partake in this type of drinking,or simply drinking in general, the whole concept is completely mind boggling. In my opinion,it makes the person less responsible for their actions and not wanting to face the real consequences. It almost comes across as "i was drunk, so its not my fault" which I think is completely irresponsible because it allows us to get involved in inexcusable behavior like getting into fights(verbal or physical), kissing or sleeping with somebody that we weren't supposed to etc.
Obviously i'm not completely ignorant,I understand that in some cases there are some people that do genuinely make mistakes.I also understand that alcohol does greatly affect the brain and impairs ones judgement and the biggest thing I understand is that there will always be people that enjoy this type of recreational drinking and the whole point,in most cases, is to get absolutely belligerently drunk which I cant always fault.
I recently came across a very interesting article online about a study on alcohols effect on brain activity and 'why people do stupid things when they are drunk' . It went on stating that;
"University of Missouri researchers found alcohol dulls the brain signal that warns people when they are making a mistake, ultimately reducing self-control.
“When people make mistakes, activity in a part of the brain responsible for monitoring behavior increases, essentially sending an alarm signal to other parts of the brain indicating that something went wrong,” said researcher Bruce Bartholow, Ph.D. also...“Our study isn’t the first to show that alcohol reduces this alarm signal, but contrary to previous studies, our study shows that alcohol doesn’t reduce your awareness of mistakes – it reduces how much you care about making those mistakes.” "
Anyways,what do you guys think? share your thoughts on this topic, is the "i was drunk" excuse still viable for you?
